  • North Country Affiliate: Virtual Edition: Ally-ship to support female Leaders in the NoCo

    Join us for an encouraging professional conversation and opportunity
    to build your network with other North Country colleagues. This session is relevant for all genders and will focus on topics related to supporting women in educational leadership. Specifically, we will:

    • Review NYSAWA mission, activities, and value of membership
    • Learn from a trusted veteran female leader to explore the principles and opportunities around “Ally-ship”
    • Who is an “ally” and what do they do?
    • How do we foster our own “ally” skills?
    • How can I become an “ally” for women's leadership?

    Featured Speaker: Anita Murphy
    About Anita Murphy: From 2017 until her retirement in June of 2023 after 32 years in
    education, Anita Murphy was District Superintendent and CEO at Capital Region Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES). Ms. Murphy came to BOCES from the
    Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District where she served as Superintendent of Schools.

    Prior to that, Murphy served as the Deputy Superintendent in both the Rochester City and Syracuse City School Districts. She also served as the Director of Instruction in the City School District of Albany. In addition Ms. Murphy worked for the New York State Education Department as the Associate Commissioner for Curriculum, Instruction and Field Services during Race to the
    Top. Anita started her career in the Binghamton City School District where she was a teacher, teacher on special assignment and finally the Director of Instructional Data.

    Ms. Murphy currently is an executive coach, does special projects, consults and serves on many expert panels, boards and commissions and has received numerous professional awards and recognition for her contributions to the field of education. Anita also sits on the State Board for the New York State Association for Women in Administration and is passionate about women’s
    issues and has helped many women achieve their career goals.
